Scientists can now predict the chances of erectile dysfunction after having the external radiotherapy, prostatectomy or brachytherapy. It is developed on the basis of patient based research published in the American Journal of Medical Association.
The study was conducted on 1027 men suffering from the early stages of prostate cancer. The treatment is based on the predictive value of the sexual characteristics of the disease. It informs the patient about the likelihood of developing the ED after the prostate cancer and the severity of their treatment is then decided. The findings also provided the insights to the long term post treatment of erectile dysfunction in the individual parents as well.
35% of them who went for prostatectomy were able to achieve the suitable erections, 37% were successful after the radiotherapy and 43% were those who went for brachytherapy. 40% of men who have undergone through the prostate removal procedures reported the recovery from ED after two years of their surgery. 58% of those had external radiation and 63% of undergoing brachytherapy also achieved the recovery from erectile dysfunction near the two years point.
The low level of prostate severity, cancer development and co-morbid conditions are associated with higher chances of developing erectile dysfunctionality. Each patient has its own set of reactions to the treatment, thus it is decided and designed keeping in mind his customized specifications. This study is a real concern for those who are most likely to survive after the prostate cancer and for all those quality of life is a priority.
Erectile dysfunction is an adverse effect of prostate cancer and mostly men care about it. There are certain medications like VIAGRA, CIALIS, and LEVITRA etc. that are commonly used for treating erectile dysfunction. Each one of them has usefulness on the quality of the sexual life of the patients. The period for which the drug is workable also differs among them. Viagra by Pfizer and Cialis by Lilly are the famous drugs for ED. Those suffering from prostate cancer should consult their doctors before taking any of them, because the reaction of cancer patients towards these might be different.
